Dealing with Substance Abuse in the Workplace (HR)

How do you know if a lawyer is impaired? What does an administrator do when the odor of alcohol is detected on the job? Can staff report suspected impairment without fear of retaliation? Dr. Lynn Hankes will review the conditions that cause impairment, myths surrounding them and how they manifest in the workplace with specific behavioral indicators.

Learning Objectives:
  • Recognize how a law firm can implement an effective method of penetrating the corporate denial that often protects individuals with substance abuse problems
  • Promote reporting within the firm
  • Discuss how intervention is an effective means of resolving the issue

Lynn Hankes, M.D., FASA M, is among the 100 pioneer physicians in the country who passed the first certification exam in Addiction Medicine and is an honored Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine. Hankes is a Clinical Professor Emeritus at the University of Washington School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
